I know that dumping a packet of seasoning into the beef is pretty easy, but this really doesn’t take much more time, and it’s so much better and healthier!


Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon
    olive oil
  • 3/4 Cups
    onion, finely chopped
  • 3
    cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Pound
    ground beef
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon
    ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon
    chili powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon
    ground chipotle pepper
  • 3/4 Teaspoons
    kosher salt
  • 1 Cup
    beef broth
  • 1/8 Cup
    tomato paste

Instructions

  1. Set a 12-inch sauté pan over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, place the onions in the pan and sauté until translucent, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the garlic to the pan and continue to sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the beef to the pan and cook, breaking the pieces up as they cook, until the meat is browned, about 8 to 10 minutes. Strain the grease from the pan.

  2. Season meat with the cumin, chili powder, chipotle pepper and salt. Add the beef broth and tomato paste to the pan and bring to a simmer. Cook the meat, stirring occasionally until most of the liquid has evaporated, about 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and serve with the taco shells and whatever toppings you like.
